"Sánchez's prowess on saxophone is matched by the intellectual depth of his concept and compositions." – Howard Reich
Music
Sánchez has had a remarkable career spanning 37 years, which began in Puerto Rico and was shaped by the rhythms of bomba, plena, salsa, and Caribbean music. These roots not only sparked his lifelong musical curiosity but also laid the foundation for his groundbreaking work, manifested into ten albums, starting with "The Departure," and particularly with "Melaza," which has influenced new generations of musicians and was listed on The New York Times’ full-time jazz writer Nate Chinen's book 'Playing Changes: Jazz for the New Century': The 129 Essential Albums of the Twenty-First Century (So Far). The 2004 Latin Grammy award winner album “Coral” and the 2020 Grammy-nominated “Carib,” his most recent work, inspired by Haitian roots music and Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms.
